If you've been searching for women's fitness classes locally, there's a good chance you're not worried about whether exercise works.
You're probably wondering what the classes are actually like.
Will everyone be fitter than me?
Will I know what I'm doing?
Will I be the oldest person there?
Will I spend the entire session feeling embarrassed?
These are some of the most common concerns we hear from women before they join Plan B Fitness.
The good news?
Almost every member who now trains confidently with us had exactly the same worries before their first session.
So let's walk through exactly what happens.
Why Women Feel Nervous About Joining Fitness Classes
Starting anything new can feel daunting.
Particularly when it involves exercise.
Many women tell us they haven't exercised consistently for years.
Others have joined gyms before and felt completely lost.
Some have spent months knowing about us and wondering whether they should finally give it a go.
The reality is that most people massively overestimate how intimidating fitness environments are.
At Plan B Fitness, our members are ordinary women balancing work, family, social commitments and busy schedules.
Nobody is expecting perfection.
Everyone started somewhere.
Plan B Fitness Sessions: Your First Visit
Whether you are training in our of out private PT studios, or our private outdoor venues, the first thing you'll notice is that we're not a ‘gym'.
Our private PT studios are not full of mirrors and rows of complicated machines.
You won't find people taking selfies or comparing themselves to others.
Instead, you'll be welcomed by a coach and a friendly group of women who are all there for similar reasons:
- To get stronger.
- To improve their health.
- To have more energy.
- To feel better in themselves.
Our coaches will introduce themselves, answer any questions and make sure you feel comfortable before the session begins.
The Warm-Up
Every session starts with a structured warm-up.
The goal is simple.
Prepare your body for exercise and help you move well.
The coach will demonstrate everything clearly and guide you through each movement.
You don't need any previous experience.
You simply follow along.
If you have an injury, stiffness or any concerns, exercises can be adapted to suit your needs.
What Does The Workout Look Like?
This is often where people imagine military-style circuits and endless burpees.
The reality is very different.
All of our programmes, whether they are 1:1 PT, Small Group PT, of Fitness Camp sessions, they are designed for real women with real lives.
Most sessions include a mixture of:
Strength Training
Using:
- Dumbbells
- Kettlebells
- Resistance bands
- Bodyweight exercises
Strength training becomes increasingly important as we get older.
It helps support:
- Muscle mass
- Bone health
- Posture
- Confidence
- Everyday movement
Many women are surprised by how much they enjoy this part of the session.
Cardiovascular Training
Depending on the programme, this might include:
- Low-impact circuits
- Short bursts of effort
- Functional fitness exercises
The emphasis is on improving fitness safely and sustainably.
Not leaving you lying on the floor wondering what just happened.
Mobility And Movement
Many sessions also include exercises designed to improve movement quality, flexibility and recovery.
These often become favourites among members who spend long hours sitting at desks.
What If I'm Unfit?
Here's something important.
You do not need to get fit before joining a fitness programme.
That's our job.
Some members arrive having exercised consistently for years.
Others haven't exercised properly since before having children.
Both are welcomed equally.
Every exercise can be adjusted.
Every workout can be scaled.
The goal is progress, not perfection.
What If I Have Injuries Or Aches And Pains?
Many women join us carrying old injuries or niggles.
Common examples include:
- Knee pain
- Lower back discomfort
- Shoulder problems
- Hip stiffness
- Previous sports injuries
Before your first session, we'll discuss any concerns you have.
Our coaches can adapt exercises to help you train safely and confidently.
You are never expected to push through pain.
The Thing Most Women Notice First
Most people expect to notice physical changes first.
In reality, that's rarely what happens.
The first improvements are usually:
- More energy
- Better sleep
- Improved mood
- Reduced stress
- Increased confidence
Many women tell us they feel better within the first couple of weeks.
The physical results often follow naturally from there.
Why Community Matters
One thing that makes our programmes different is the community.
Many women arrive expecting a workout.
What they don't expect is the support.
Training alongside other women who understand the challenges of balancing work, family and health makes a huge difference.
You'll often find members chatting before sessions, encouraging each other during workouts and celebrating each other's successes.
That sense of belonging is one of the reasons people stay consistent.
What Happens After The Session?
You leave.
You go home.
You get on with your day, or spend time with your family in the evening.
But you'll probably feel a little different.
A little more energised.
A little more positive.
A little more proud of yourself for showing up.
And that's where real progress begins.
Not with a perfect workout.
Not with a strict diet.
But with consistently showing up for yourself.
