Personal v Group Training: Which Offers the Best Value for Money?

Deciding between personal v group training can be challenging, especially when you're looking to achieve specific fitness goals whether that is losing weight, getting stronger, getting an event PB, or just improving overall long term health.

At Plan B Fitness, we offer both personal and group training programmes, each with its unique benefits and pricing.

In this article, we'll compare the benefits and ideal scenarios for each type of training to help you make an informed decision.

 Benefits of Group Training

  1. Community and Motivation:

Training in a group setting provides a sense of community and camaraderie, which can be crucial for long term commitment.

The group dynamic can enhance motivation and accountability.

2. Cost-Effective:

Group training is generally more affordable than 1-2-1 personal training.

Offers great value for those who want professional guidance* without the higher cost of personal sessions.

* At Plan B Fitness, all of our coaches are Personal Trainers, and they coach our group training. Many companies use Fitness Instructors to teach their group training. A Personal Trainer and a Fitness Instructor are not the same. A Personal Trainer is significantly more qualified in coaching, rather than just instructing. They are generally more experienced working with a specific demographic as well.

3. Variety and Fun:

Group sessions often include varied and dynamic workouts, keeping exercise enjoyable and engaging.

Different group members bring energy and enthusiasm to each session.

Benefits of Personal Training

1. Personalised Attention:

1-2-1 training offers personalised workouts tailored specifically to your fitness goals and needs. This can be especially important for injury rehab or specific health conditions.

Trainers can adjust exercises in real-time to match your progress and address any limitations.

2. Personalised Nutrition and Support*:

Personal trainers provide detailed nutritional support and guidance tailored to your individual requirements.

Enhanced support and accountability to help you stay on track and achieve your goals.

* At Plan B Fitness, we offer the same personalised nutrition to ALL clients, whether you are working with us 1-2-1 or group training. We believe we'd be doing you a massive disservice if we didn't offer this to all clients – based on how important sensible nutrition is to long term health and wellbeing.

3. More Specific Results:

With personalised coaching, clients often see more specific results due to the nature of the workouts being tailored to a specific need. An example of this is when we train clients to complete a Marathon (or other events!) and their results are very specific to this goal – opposed to e.g. generic weight loss and fitness improvements.

Trainers can focus on specific areas of improvement, providing targeted exercises and feedback. An example of this is injury rehab or training for a specific goal to meet a desired result, a finishing time or a PB, for example.

Recommendations for Different Fitness Goals and Budgets

For Budget-Conscious Individuals:

Group Training: If you're looking for an affordable option that still provides professional guidance, group training is an excellent choice. The lower cost per programme/monthly membership and the sense of community can keep you motivated and engaged.

For Personalised Goals and Specific Needs:

Personal Training: If you have specific fitness goals, require personalised attention, or are recovering from an injury, personal training is a great option. The higher investment is justified by the tailored support, more specific results, and customised plans.

For Those Seeking Flexibility:

Hybrid Approach: Consider combining both personal and group training. This approach allows you to benefit from personalised sessions while enjoying the community and cost-effectiveness of group training. You can schedule personal training sessions to focus on specific goals and join group classes for variety and motivation. At Plan B Fitness, our Hybrid Programmes are becoming more popular than ever before.

Both personal and group training at Plan B Fitness offer unique benefits that cater to different needs and budgets.

Consider your fitness goals, budget, and personal preferences when choosing the best training option for you.
