What can I do to stop piling on the pounds in December?

So here are 5 ways to avoid the winter weight gain over the festive period:

1 – Eat more veggies

The water and fibre in fruits and vegetables will add volume to your dishes, so you can eat the same amount of food with fewer calories.

Most fruits and vegetables are naturally low in fat and calories and are filling.

2 – Keep drinking plenty of water

Drinking enough water each day is crucial for many reasons: to regulate body temperature, keep joints lubricated, prevent infections, deliver nutrients to cells, and keep organs functioning properly.

Being well-hydrated also improves sleep quality, cognition, and mood.

3 – Make sure you get enough sleep

Sleep is an essential and involuntary process, without which we cannot function effectively. It is as essential to our bodies as eating, drinking and breathing, and is vital for maintaining good mental and physical health.

Sleeping helps to repair and restore our brains, not just our bodies.

4 – Keep moving – going on walks daily (10k steps!).

Making a goal of 10,000 steps a day boosts your heart health, helps you focus better, provides more energy, and strengthens your lungs, bones, and muscles.

5 – Remember that one day off track doesn't mess up the whole of Christmas.

Get back on track with 1-4 every single day to avoid the winter weight gain.
