How I put on 8kgs… not in a good way.

When the first lockdown hit and we were all forced into staying at home and working out online via Zoom…

I was SO BUSY making sure that our clients were being serviced – literally 24 hours a day – that I thought I didn’t have time to focus on my own health.

Actually, I wasn’t even aware enough to think about it. It just happened.

And it wasn’t long until I was feeling exhausted and irritable.

My energy levels had hit rock bottom, even thought I was stuck at home every day not doing much!

Even my wife called me out on my lack of ‘self care'…

When I decided to do something about it, I was ABSOLUTLEY shocked to step on the scales and discover I have put on 8kgs…

Talk about a face-palm moment.

I was so in my head and thinking about everything I needed to do for everyone else that I forgot to be PRESENT in my own life.

And in the process I was robbing myself of the chance to make ‘TODAY' a great day.

It’s the classic dilemma of letting the ‘urgent' get in the way of the important.

And I completely let my own health slip.

We all do it from time to time.

Tomorrow I might tell you about how I shook my self out of this rut, but ended up in hospital for three days, having fallen off my bike and smashed my face in.

Yes, in hospital for three days in the height of the Covid pandemic!

This was a ‘literal' face plant moment!

Getting back on track…

We focus on all the things we think we SHOULD do…

And that usually means putting our own self-care on the backburner.

But here’s where we get it twisted:

Those 30 minutes you spend TODAY taking care of yourself will make almost everything else in your life easier.

And it all comes down to today.

What you do TODAY is going to impact your tomorrow.

Thirty minutes of quiet time, 30 minutes of preparing healthy meals for the week, 30 minutes of sweating it out…

It’s just 2% of your day.

So what’s ONE thing you can do today to prioritise your self-care?

Because tomorrow, you’ll wish you did that thing today.

Whatever the first thing that popped into your head was…

Make it as ‘urgent' as all of the other things you have to do today.

Here’s what I’m doing:

Right now, I have a very niggly back injury. I KNOW that when I stretch or do some mobility work for 15-20 mins I feel infinitely better later in the day.

Here is the type of routine I do:

(You can have this one on me!)

Make sure you carve out some ‘you' time today.

Have a great day!
